Understanding Construction Delays

About a year ago, I could tell that our home project was a little delayed. Our team of contractors had been struggling to work with some of their providers, so I decided to work with another team altogether. It was really frustrating, but I could tell that it was the right call to make. After we made the transition, the new staff got right to work addressing some of the most serious concerns. I wanted to create a blog all about understanding construction delays so that other people could see how difficult it can be to resolve them on your own. Check it out!

Ceramic And Porcelain Tile: What Are The Similarities And Differences?

Gina Hawkins

Are you getting ready to install new tile in your home, but are not sure if you should install porcelain or ceramic tiles? If so, it will help to know the similarities and differences between these two materials.

The Similarities

There are many similarities between these two types of tile materials you may not be aware of. Ceramic and porcelain are both going to be materials that are easy to clean and maintain over the years. You should be regularly sweeping your tile floors to avoid having dirt build up on the surface and avoid having to scrub them. When it comes time to clean, both materials can be scrubbed with soap and water. You shouldn't need to seal either material either since the natural finish is going to last for many years.

Durability is a huge reason that people like having tile flooring in their home. It makes it a great choice for people with kids and pets since it is going to be hard to scratch tile flooring that is made out of ceramic or porcelain

The Differences

The main difference between the two materials is that porcelain is a nonporous material and ceramic tile is porous. While this doesn't make a big difference in everyday wear and tear, it does matter when you determine the rooms that get porcelain or ceramic tile. Porcelain is going to be the better choice for a kitchen or bathroom, which is considered a wet room where water can get on the floor. If you wanted to line a shower with tile, porcelain is going to be the better choice.

Porcelain is also capable of withstanding colder and hotter temperatures, which makes it ideal for a back patio or another outdoor space. Ceramic tile won't hold up as well under the different extreme temperatures, so it is best to not use it outside.

When it comes to how easy it is to work with each material, know that you are going to have a better time installing ceramic tile. Since the ceramic material is not as hard as porcelain, it will be easier to cut into the various shapes needed to line the edges of a room, which makes the installation process much easier.

Price-wise, ceramic flooring is going to be the more affordable material. If you do not need the added durability and are on a budget, then ceramic is definitely the way to go.
