Understanding Construction Delays

About a year ago, I could tell that our home project was a little delayed. Our team of contractors had been struggling to work with some of their providers, so I decided to work with another team altogether. It was really frustrating, but I could tell that it was the right call to make. After we made the transition, the new staff got right to work addressing some of the most serious concerns. I wanted to create a blog all about understanding construction delays so that other people could see how difficult it can be to resolve them on your own. Check it out!

When You Know You Need A New Roof

Gina Hawkins

There are many reasons why you might want a new roof installed. Understandably, many of those reasons will have to do with the condition of the current roof. However, there are also other things that can lead to someone determining they need a new roof installed. Here are some reasons that can make it easier for you to decide if it is a good time for you to have a new roof installed on your own home.

Your roof is old

Different types of roofs can last for different lengths of time. You want to find out the expected lifespan of the type of roof that you have. Then, make sure you don't wait too long once the roof is at that point. Once your roof is near its expected lifespan, you want to be extra aware of any repair issues that start to happen. This way, you can have the roof replaced before things get bad and you put the rest of your home at risk.

Granules keep falling off the shingles

It's okay to see a few granules in the gutters or on the ground after a significant storm. However, it's not normal to see granules regularly because this means that the roof is past its prime. If this is the case, the roof is in such bad shape that the granules are continuously shedding. Once you are finding granules regularly, you want to be prepared for the fact that the time has come for you to get a new roof.

Your roof valleys are corroded

The valleys of your roof can be weak spots. Leaves and other debris that gets blown on the roof can become trapped in those parts of the roof where they collect and hold onto rainwater. This can cause corrosion to occur. If the valleys are corroded, then there is a good chance that there is enough damage to the roof that it will require replacement by a roofing company.

There is light coming through the roof boards

You should never be able to see light through the roof boards. If you can see light, then this indicates that your roof should be replaced. It's a good idea to take occasional trips up into your attic so you can look for issues like this happening. This way, you know that you aren't letting your roof go with significant damage long enough for a good storm to come through and cause bigger issues for your house.
