Understanding Construction Delays

About a year ago, I could tell that our home project was a little delayed. Our team of contractors had been struggling to work with some of their providers, so I decided to work with another team altogether. It was really frustrating, but I could tell that it was the right call to make. After we made the transition, the new staff got right to work addressing some of the most serious concerns. I wanted to create a blog all about understanding construction delays so that other people could see how difficult it can be to resolve them on your own. Check it out!

Ready For A Change? How To Get Exactly What You Want Out Of Your Kitchen Remodeling Project

Gina Hawkins

If you're tired of your old kitchen, it's time to plan a kitchen remodeling project. Remodeling your existing kitchen will give you the upgrade you want while allowing you to remain in your existing home. After all, you don't want to go to the trouble of buying a new home just because you're tired of your old kitchen. A kitchen remodel can be just the change you need. Before you sit down with your contractor, however, here are four steps you should take that will ensure you get exactly what you're looking for.

Consider Functionality

When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, it can be easy to just throw your hands up and say you want to start from scratch. While that will definitely get you a new kitchen, it might not get you the one you want, or need. Before you start planning your remodel, take time to consider the functionality – what you really want out of your new kitchen. For instance, if you're tired of a lack of counter space, you'll want to focus on that aspect. However, if you're tired of the general appearance, starting from scratch may be the way to go.

Look for Additional Space

If your kitchen is simply too small to suit your needs, or the layout is all wrong, you're going to need some extra space. Before you start eyeing those exterior walls, take a look at the adjoining rooms. See if there are ways to expand into the existing rooms to give you the additional space you need. You might find that moving out towards the family room will give you the kitchen space you need, and the open floor plan you want.

Don't Forget the Windows

If you're going to be remodeling your kitchen, don't forget about the windows. New windows can open up your kitchen, and bring in the much-needed natural light. If you want an open dining area, bay windows can provide you with the cozy space you need in your kitchen.

Talk to a Realtor

Now that you're going to be remodeling your kitchen, you might want to consider the potential impact it will have on the resale value of your home. Before you begin with the plans for your kitchen remodel, talk to a realtor near you. They'll be able to point you in the direction of improvements that can add to the resale value of your home, which will be important should you decide to sell your home in the future.
